Finished...

Black and White

Color

So I finished this :). I've been going through some personal stuff so being able to focus on this piece and just try my best on it helped a little.

Here's my reference

Senior Pictures: Jennifer Davenport

Yes I did Senior pictures...

During Thanksgiving break my family and I went to Charlotte, North Carolina to visit my aunt. While there I took my younger cousins Senior Pictures. I just finished editing all the ones we narrowed it down (from the 850 pictures). So have a look!

 Model: Jennifer Davenport

Each of the twelve photos have about three different variations. With text or without, bw or color you get the idea. I just picked my favorite of each photo.

Business Cards

Option 1 or Option 2?

So I decided to make some business cards. The reason being, I have been asked a lot about the work I do in school and how to find my work. Now I can just hand out business cards and people will be able to find me. I have two different looks I'm working with. A fun care free look like my blog or a more professional look with the film strip. The first option, shows more of my personality and is more artsy, while the second option is colder and shows my model skills which is what I want to get into. Thoughts?

Self Portrait

Work in Progress...

Yes this is kind of crappy, but it's a work in progress. I only worked on it for about an hour and a half. Just thought I'd preview it.

I'm just your average imitator...

I haven't posted in a while so i thought I would just post this random final I had to do for 19th Century Art. Enjoy.

I did this in copic marker while waiting for my Reel video to render out.

Zombie Virus Stages

The Stages of the Zombie Virus...

Stage 1

Stage 2

Stage 3

So for time reasons I switched my final for my Zombie class. Instead of an illustration of kick ass women zombie killers, I decided to do a more medical approach and do different stage of the zombie virus. I took 3 different pictures of my model Brianna Parish. I used photoshop to manipulate the pictures and create the different stages of the virus.

Family Tree

Something simple and appley...

For my anthropology class we were required to create a family tree. I'm not too close to a lot of my family so I kept mine very simple with just first cousins. A lot of my cousins are 25+ years old and are married and have kids so I tried to used different elements to describe different type of family member, i.e. apples as cousins.

This was a very quick piece, but even so it was good photoshop practice. I am however very proud of my decaying apple and leaves.

Zombie War -Post 1-

Yes zombies...

So for my Zombie lit class our final is to create something that summarizes what we've focused on throughout the weeks. I choose to do something about women and zombies. In most movies we've watched the women have been not very central or helpful to the zombie epidemic. They mostly get in the way really.

My idea was to create some kick ass mo-fo women to battle zombies, and have one cowering man. I have not decided if I wanted to sexy-fy the women, kind of like they do in comic books. I'm thinking about doing this to play with the idea of how women are really only a sex symbol in some movies like the first one we watched White Zombie.

15" x 25"

This is just a very sketchy composition work out, and i wanted to get the figures flushed out as well. I'm really happy with the middle figure and probably will change the zombies and maybe the left figure as well. Hope you liked it!!

Sketches

Oh look at that, I do know how to draw...

I usually never post sketches, but I feel if I did it might motivate me more to sketch, so I collected all the sketches from the last couple weeks and combined them together for your viewing pleasure :).

There are only a few that I really like. The 2 in the top left corner, which are cartoon portraits of my boyfriend (also the gas mask one is a quick portrait of him preparing for field). I also really like the Dead Space sketch (bottom left corner), which I did to prepare for my next sculpture project which is going to be Benjamin from the video game Dead Space.

I thought I'd put this one by itself because it is the only one in color. This is a fan-art for the book Cinder by Marissa Meyer. You can click on a link for a description of the book. I really liked the book, so when I finished it I just started sketching and Cinder and Iko appeared.

Boba Fett

Improving My Skills Continued...

As you can see I finished Boba Fett. I was thinking of keeping him in black and white. but he looks so much better in color. Also, I have to admit that I use an overlay layer to create the color. So basically I shade the whole piece in black and white, then create a new layer where I "color in" the figure and it creates this rugged dark colored look. This technique definitely would not work for a a portrait of someone, or even a happy piece, but since Boba Fett is a bad guy the look suits him. Also this is a desktop background I created for Zak, as you'll be able to see in the first progress shot.

Progress shots for Boba Fett.

Improving my Skills.

Photoshop

Over the summer I realized that I really needed to work on my photoshop painting skills. I figured I'd show some of that on here, and what I've been currently been working on.

Before I really thought about how to improve my skills, I created a piece to see where my current skills are.
Within a week, I had already improved my skills greatly. The main reason my skill improved greatly is because I started using reference photos.

As you can see my skill really increased, after deciding to use references. Currently I am working on Boba Fett, from star wars. I have not decided if I want to color it or not, but here is the work-in-progress.

I'm going to start working on this some more, because I've been neglecting it for a few weeks now. I really want to finish it because I feel as if it is my best yet.

Introduction

I decided my first post on this blog should be an introduction of myself, a little back history to the author of this blog if you will.

I grew up in a small town called Ft. Loramie, and half of my life I lived above a bar that my parents owned, needless to say I had a very interesting childhood. My parents still own The Keyhole, and I work there bartending when I have a weekend off. Not to advertise for the place, but we are locally famous for our pizza. A lot of my art started sitting at the bar and sketching out ideas.
As for education I graduated from Ft. Loramie High School and I attended Upper Valley Career Center in their Business financial department. While attending high school I joined the post-secondary program at my local community college and got my freshman year of college out of the way. Currently I am a junior at Columbus College of Art and Design, studying animation.
Overall I am a very happy-go-lucky person that likes to crack jokes and make people laugh. I am very dedicated to school and work, and very excited to start concentrating on my major this year.
